Fire protection for the Borough of Blairsville, as well as several
surrounding municipalities, has been provided by the Young Men's
Volunteer Fire Company since 1897. Today, the Fire Company
answers 300 alarms annually with 50 active volunteer members.
Funding for these services is obtained primarily through voluntary
donations and fund raising events. The largest single source of the
financial support is the annual fund drive. The continued success
of the Volunteer Fire Company is a direct reflection of the generous
spirit of the people of Blairsville.
The Fire Company operates from a station on the corner of West
Campbell and North Spring Street. Fire Company apparatus include
two Engines, a Rescue Truck, a 4x4 Utility / Brush Truck, a Service
Truck, a Water Rescue Trailer, and a Rescue Boat. Our 1981 American
LaFrance Engine won best in the state at fire conventions in 1983 and 2002.
Our newest equipment in use, the Water Rescue Trailer and Rescue Boat,
is part of our effort to help ensure the safety of the growing number of
boaters and swimmers on the Conemaugh River and reflects our commitment
to changing and growing with the community. The Fire Company has a water
rescue team comprised of certified River Rescuers as well as Rescue Divers.
The Fire Company is grateful for the support of the Borough of Blairsville
and the citizens of the Blairsville Area for continued financial support. Tours
of the Fire Station are provided upon request to any community group. Any
person interested in joining the Fire Company should contact Chief Dan Duralia
or any member at (724) 459-8111.
